Panasonic HX-WA10 Trial

Today Lorena and I went out for our usual short walk and it was a good opportunity to test the Panasonic HX-WA10 stills/video camera. For such a compact and waterproof (down to 3 metres) camera I'm pleased with the results but I do have an issue with the stills.

I've uploaded a still picture below and there is significant unsharpness on the left hand side of the image. This is quite difficult to appreciate on this smaller image but if you click on it and download the larger one you will see what I mean. I think this may be a fault with this unit so I've been in touch with Panasonic and I'll wait and see what they have to say.

  1. Well, I have now heard back from Panasonic and the reply I received is included below, I've now emailed in the original file and I'm waiting to see what comes back from that, I'll keep you posted. I have no idea why Panasonic couldn't access the file, nobody else has had any problems at all.

    Reply follows:

"Thank you for your enquiry regarding the HX-WA10. In response to your email I have not been able to access that file as for some odd reason our servers have decided to block that link. Would it be at all possible for you to email the picture to customer.care@panasonic.co.uk for further assessment?"

  2. Well, I finally heard back from Panasonic who have inspected the image and have concluded that there is a lens fault so if anyone out there has or is thinking of buying a similar unit this is worth checking out. Here is the reply I received:

"Thank you for your response. Our technical support team have inspected the photo and have agreed that there appears to be a fault with the lens."

  3. The final step was taken yesterday when I collected a replacement camera. It has to be said that the customer service arrangements and support at John Lewis has been once again truly outstanding. This is one of the main reasons I shop there so often. I'll be posting some new sample images from the replacement camera in the next little while which will hopefully not exhibit the same unsharpness flaw.
