Tuesday (not) Training

Hi

Things gong pretty much as badly as they could have been going at this time of year now. Ongoing problems requiring antibiotics coupled with the viral illness which has been plaguing me with an ongoing sore throat, stuffed nose etc. etc. has all just left me done in.

On balance getting on the turbo would not be doing me any good at all at the moment so I'm just going to rest and let things take their course. As for La Marmotte, well I'm now 99% sure that it's going to have to wait for another year. I had really really hoped that things would pick up but they aren't, if anything they are deteriorating.

I'm currently finding the stairs a challenge my legs feel that weak and the idea of taking on La Marmotte is just a non-starter as things stand. Having had to bail out of a 60 minute L3 turbo ride the other day there is just no way at all I'd have a realistic chance of even getting round the course in 10 days time. So, a black situation, not much can be done about it, just be grateful that this has happened now instead of just before the 2010 Tour, hard to see it like that though...

  1. Man, I've been offline for a week or so. I am so gutted for you. Worst case scenario. Still a week or so before La Marmotte, you never know.

I cannot imagine how disappointed you must be feeling ... my guess is the rainy polka dot did you in.

all the best, and get well soon.

  2. Hi Quentin,
It's Alistair who's doing La Marmotte with you. Don't give up hope yet. I saw you did the Cyclone the other week. For somebody not very well you did a good time.I did it 4 minutes quicker and i was towed around by some fit lads all the way to The Ryals before i went to the front and I was pleased with my time.Remember La Marmotte is not a race I'm going to take my time and enjoy the scenery as much as possible.Ride with myself and John Porter the two oldies.Bring your bike and try L'Alpe d'Huez on Friday, see how you feel.

    Regards Alistair.

  3. Hi Mark

Thanks, yes, it's a bit grim at the moment but there are after all plenty of worse things. Hope all is going well for you.

    Cheers.

  4. Hi Alistair

Good to "meet" you! I'm afraid La Marmotte is looking pretty unlikely at the moment. If there were a large and rapid improvement you never know but as things stand it's a non starter, I simply wouldn't get round. I can plug away at a steady effort but as soon as I need a bit more there is just nothing there, been like that for about 3 months now, since the Cheshire Cat when I was first unwell. Going round slowly is one thing, not being able to get round would be quite another.

I'll keep you posted, watch this space.

    Cheers.
